To Keep Teenagers Alert, Schools Let Them Sleep In

I would like to see more secondary schools adopt later start times. While this article highlights the successes of students whose schools have later start times, the article does not delve into the plethora of reasons that generally discourage school boards from making the change. Some of these reasons include: athletics interrupting the educational day (i.e. students leave class early to participate in athletics), the number of instructional minutes required at secondary levels versus elementary levels cause child care issues, bus routes and times of pick up and drop off, etc. I have long been an advocate of either moving the secondary start time to a later hour or incorporate staggering start times for secondary schools that enable choice in school day hours for students.
