Common Core: Adult Problems Aren’t More Important Than Kids’ Needs

While I typically disagree with Michelle Rhee in just about every way, one way in which we do agree is that Common Core State Standards are a step in the right direction and a return to an emphasis on teaching critical thinking skills rather than test-taking skills. Where I still continue to differ with Rhee is that I don’t believe that our education system should be based on raising international test scores. Those scores are nothing more than an indicator–one of multiple measures we should be using to craft education policy and classroom strategies.
